Finally... [16 Sep 2008|11:54am]

[ mood | contemplative ]

...saw the Lars Von Trier version. Very interesting.
But I still prefer Stephen King's better. *nods*

Anyone else?

Also, got my hands on a copy of the Journal of Eleanor
Druse, and enjoyed that, too.

Hi, I guess this is a bit old now as the community seems to have mostly died... I got the boxset this weekend because I wanted to see Callum Keith Rennie in the Butterfingers episode, but I've gotten hooked on the whole series ^_^

Has anyone here been to this Kingdom Hosptial website? Oooh, it scares me in a cool way. I'm being a chicken and daredn't go into the "pain room" though.... o_O;;;;;

For all of us KH fans, I am glad to tell you that Sci Fi is doing a mini series and guess what's on the list! KH! Finally it's going to be back on tv and hopefully if it gets enough ratings, Stephen will think about making a sequal to it because I really wanna know what happened. It starts April 11th at 7PM.

[ mood | confused ]

Hm, seems this community has kind of died (no pun intended) since KH ended. Well, I finally rented the DVDs and got to see the final episode, and wanted to do a discussion with some other fans.

Just in case anyone hasn't seen the last episode, I'll put my question behind a cut ('cause I HATE people who inadvertently ruin the endings of things).

My question isCollapse )

Please discuss. :)

Any gamer geeks here? (Yes, I promise this is relevant) [04 Jan 2006|11:24am]

[ mood | geekish ]

Hi. Becca here--Kingdom fan, gamer geek and Perv for Paul (*looks sheepish*).

I'm asking simply because in a fit of complete madness, I dropped the ENTIRE post-season Kingdom Hospital into my worlds-collide style crossover game. At the moment, I have three NPCs: Antibus, Paul and Dr. Gottreich. If you're bored, it's over here:

Both the Living and the Dead are welcome as PCs. Obviously, Mary is not going to be available.

Please help [04 Jan 2006|12:53pm]

Hello all! I am new to this community and also new to Kingdom Hospital. I had a question that I'm sure someone would know the answer to or at least know where I could find the answer.

I know Stephen King plays in all of his movies/series and I did find out he plays Jonny B. Good in Kingdom Hospital. My question is when does he come in? I've tried to find pictures of him playing this character and no such luck!

thanks in advance

Screen Captures [13 Dec 2005|01:14pm]

I'm sure you've all heard the requests.. and I'm sorry if I missed it in an earlier post. I went thru all the fan sites for Kingdom Hospital on Livejournal, and this seems the most active, so I'm hoping of a response.. I'm looking for 2 specific screen captures.

Recently, I've been staying up till 1 am and found KH for the first time. It's my second viewing as they went thru the whole season, then started up from the begining the night after. Last night, was the episode where the "burned convict" got shot. As well, the lawyer got his "heart transplant". During the transplant that Antubis performed, they had it silouetted against the sheet.

The first screen capture I'm looking for is that. Preferably with Antubis at his highest, just before he takes out the heart. (I'd be thrilled with the whole sequence, but more than happy with only the specified shot.)

The other screen capture I'm looking for is Antubis, in anteater form, fully facing us, in mid roar. In the screen captures I've seen so far, he's always at a 3/4 turn or greater. For the gif icons I plan on making, I need him to be facing us square on.. like more than a few of his human screen captures.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Riget [05 Nov 2005|04:19pm]

Finally the show came to Denmark! :)

I guess most of you have no idea that this was originally a Danish show, ("Riget", 1994, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108906/), since Lars Von Trier isn't even a part of the interests in the info?

Anyways, just wanted to say "hi". I live right next to Riget ("Rigshospitalet"), the hospital that "spawned" the show. And OH MY GOD it creeped me out when I was a kid - long before the show started. I used to have nightmares about the elevators, moving sideways and weird stuff like that. I went to the occupational therapy ward every week for 3 years when I was 7-10 years old (was 11 when the show came), and that ward happened to be located in the basement. EEEW. Sure it's not full of water like in the American show in real life, but it's fucking creepy with all the noises, cold wind and lamps that can't light up those dark corridors. Ew.

Still, I loved the Danish show. I guess I'm a masochist. Watched the 2 first episodes of the American last night... Hm. It's American this version, that's for sure. Some things are the same. Druse's last name. The doll, girl and elevators of course. The 2 handicapped people are sooo creepy in the Danish show though, and they always do the dishes. In this show it seems that they are there to lighten up the mood? No creep-factor whatsoever. That's sad. Also, a lot of the actors have been added. And the animals don't exist in Riget - that must be all King. But, I can't wait until it's friday again.

Character Discussion: Sally Druse [26 Oct 2005|09:15am]

[ mood | busy ]

Wow, there were quite a few very interesting points made about Dr Hook! Let's keep that up. :D

I think the thing that has always struck me about Mrs Druse is how she is a psychic, believes fully in spirits and the otherworld and communication with the dead, but is also a practicing Christian who believes funny in God. This isn't a juxtaposition that I see very often, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

The thing about Sally is her faith. She has unwavering, strong faith in her beliefs and she will not be swayed. She relies on it as though it were a lifeline, and never once seems embarrassed or silly when telling anyone and everyone exactly what she thinks is going on. Whether it be doctors, her son, Natalie... regardless of who, she never holds back or tries to make what she says 'believable'. To her, it's fact and there's no reason anyone should disbelieve her.

In a way, I think Sally Druse is the most idealistic of the characters in Kingdom Hospital. Certainly idealism and faith are oft repeated themes, but Mrs Druse firm belief in goodness and the spirit world and in men doing the right thing outshine anyone elses. And she maintains a bright and hopeful outlook, regardless of her opposition.

But faith in such a high dosage isn't always healthy. It could be argued that her faith and idealism makes her horribly naieve, and that her habit of opening up to everyone makes it difficult for her to be taken seriously. Is her faith a help or a hinderence? Would a different approach in making people aware of the spirits be accepted better, or dismissed more quickly?

(For the sake of discussion, we'll be drawing only from what we see of Mrs Druse in Kingdom Hospital, and leaving out what we see in the novel companion.)

Hook Discussion [24 Oct 2005|11:05am]

[ mood | busy ]

Dr Hook is certainly one of the more pivotal characters in Kingdom Hospital. Mysterious but strangely open with certain people, intelligent, sarcastic, talented, always quick to oppose Stegman and have his hand in anything that seems interesting, willing to fudge the rules of the hospital and allow others to do the same, and the first of the Kingdom employees to have any contact with the spirits that haunt the hospital.

Hook is one of my favorite characters. Living as he does in the Old Kingdom, I'm not surprised that he's as open as he is to what's happening at the Kingdom. He seems to have an amazing amount of control - we seldom see him lose his temper or panic. His tally of malpractice and medical mistakes is morbid and fascinating - and maybe unethical. He's certainly willing to bend the rules of the hospital, and yet he's regarded as their most talented surgeon and a valuable employee.

So what do you all think of Hook? Good guy? Morally ambiguous? All around bastard who happens to have a hearty dose of charisma?

Character Discussion [24 Oct 2005|08:17am]

Since I got a lot of replies to my Stegman character discussion, I was wondering who wants to do any more? All the characters on the show are layered, complex and interesting, and I personally love to discuss characterization with people.

So who would be up for some Kingdom Hospital Character Discussion? Let's get this community active again! :D

Stegman Discussion [21 Oct 2005|09:59am]

[ mood | curious ]

Last night, I was watching Kingdom Hospital for about the fifth time. I thought I'd try and jumpstart the community with some character discussion. :D

Last night, what really stuck with me was Stegman's introduction. I think the manner in which he's introduce presents him to us perfectly. It shows us exactly what sort of man he is - a 'pathetic, terrible man' as Sally calls him later. And completely out of place and out of sync with everyone else, which was demonstrated by 'Gin and Juice' playing in the background through the entire parking lot scene. Here we have an esteemed surgeon who is quite obviously anal, finicky, obsessed with presentation and with a stick up his bum the size of a redwood. And he's introduced to the strains of Snoop Dog. I can't think of a better juxtaposition to clearly get across the idea of Stegman.

But I think there's something else about Stegman, something that's put across much more subtlety. He's a scared man. He covers this with his brashness and his bravado and his constant deriving of everything around him. He bullies and he blusters and he yells the loudest of anyone, and I really think this is brought on by fear. Fear for his job, fear for his reputation, fear for the quality of his life and fear for his own peace of mind.

So, what do you think? What's your take on old Steggy?

Hey all!
Once again..I join a fandom a day late and a dollar short. But eh..what CAN ya do huh? I'm joining anyways just to see what happens.:)

I recently rented Kingdom Hospital from Blockbuster last month on a whim, then shortly after bought the box set. Still need to watch the last two episodes but I am completely hooked. Its nice to see that I'm not the only one who has gotten addicted to this show.

Any one still out there in this community?:)

I met Otto [04 Sep 2005|06:11pm]

Someone needs to do something to keep this community alive... and it might as well be me.

I was in Toronto last weekend and I met up with Julian Richings. Otto from Kingdom Hospital.

I've met him before, in June, for an interview I was doing for my university... This time my friend and I just had lunch with him and discussed some things.

Anyway, here he is:

Hey! I'm also another newbie.
I started watching Kingdom Hospital when it aired in the USA, and immediately became a fan. I got the DVD Set for Christmas this year, and have been watching it time after time ever since.

Since then, I've become a sincere Stephen King fan, read "The Journals of Eleanor Druse" which I loved, and the series even led me to look into a career in nursing.

There aren't many KH fansites, I noticed, so I came to LiveJournal hoping to find a community for the series, and happened upon this one! Just as a side bar-- my favorite episode is "Butterfingers" and my favorite characters are a three-way-tie between Paul, Antubis, and of course, Mary.
Well, I guess that's it on me. Hope to get to know you all better here!

Intro [07 Jul 2005|04:50pm]

Hey, I'm new here...
I missed watching Kingdom Hospital when it aired on TV, so I just bought it on DVD and I love it.
Also I'm a big Kett Turton fan (he plays Paul/Anubis).
Well, I just wanted to say hello, if anyone wants to say anything back, then comment:)

*waves hello*

Just joined, and wanted to say hello. I've been a long time fan of Stephen King, and despite dealing with one of my biggest phobias (hospitals) and my biggest supernatural phobia (ghost children - they scare me like few other things), I fell in love with Kingdom Hospital almost from the start! I got hooked on Kingdom Hospital when it first aired, and sadly only saw the first six episodes. When I saw the DVD set in Best Buy, I immediately grabbed it. I got my housemates hooked as well, and now it's one of our favorites.

I just finished the companion book, The Diary of Eleanor Druse today. I enjoyed it quite a bit, despite not being a fan of first person books. The way it tied into the series was surprising but I think it worked very well. And I loved the extra tid-bits of explanations!

I could probably think of something more intelligent to say, but I'm heading for bed.

Just Joined [27 Mar 2005|04:22pm]

I just joined this community.
I'm an Aussie and I bought the DVD's a few days ago. I haven't gotten very far into them yet though only a bit into the second disk.
I missed a lot of episodes when they showed it on TV here, due to pathetic times such as midnight and 1 and 2 in the morning. But the episodes I did see got me hooked (that was not intended to be a pun). So glad I have the DVDs.
I was also wondering if anyone knew the titles of the songs used in the series.
So far I have the names of 3-
Worry about You- IVY
"Red Dragon Tattoo" by Fountains of Wayne
"Gin and Juice" by The Gourds

HELP!!! [12 Mar 2005|03:13pm]

[ mood | upset ]

Here's the story. My bf got me KH on DVD for christmas...I got all the way to the Last Disk (I still haven't seen the end to the series) and there was some sort of problem halfway through, it starts skipping and won't play on any of my DVD players....needless to say I went ballistic...He returned it and Best Buy re-ordered it. He JUST got another copy...I was all excited, opened it up put in the last disk...and its skipping again.

I'm so upset...I still have no idea what happens to everyone in the kingdom and I have a faulty disk that starts skipping when they get to the pain room and find the baseball. Did anyone else have this problem....and does anyone have the last epp that they could let me download???

From some best of 2004 thing.

WORST MIDSEASON TV SHOW: Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital. ABC's dreary, sluggish and shamelessly quirky series featured loopy hospital administrators, a surgeon who lived in the basement and a talking anteater. Yes, a talking anteater.

Aw how sad is that! Are they dissing Anubis?! Bastards.

Link here.
